1977

Ryhope Cherry Knowle played in the Sunderland Sunday League and over the years, 1971/72 season up to 1982/83, I used to help out whenever I could. Although I can never remember playing a full season with them, the club must have thought I'd done enough to present me with trophies for finishing Division 3 Runners Up in the 1971/72 season and Division 2 Runners Up in the 1977/78 season.

If anyone has any, team photos/information, relating to my time with the club I would like to hear from you.

From this Sunderland Football Echo report, 12 March 1983, Ray Craggs, Paul Morse (both playing for Grangetown Instrip and Malcolm Guy were quality players who were with me 2 years later, in my days as manager of Dawdon CW, and helped Dawdon win the Wearside League Cup. This report also shows a remarkable  ‘4 goal’ performance from Ian Swansbury, for Ryhope Guide Post, taking his tally for the season to 55. Ian is part of the very talented football family in Ryhope. As this report is in early March I wonder just how many he actually finished with.
